It is a common practice for the world citizens to measure success on the scale of money earned. The means of money earning hardly matters unless it is a hard-core criminal way! The things money can buy are too glittering, the way of plush living is so irresistible, the celebrity life is so adorable that the moral, ethical values are compromised, the demarcation between the right and wrong is abolished. Every citizen wishes to reach the finishing line where he can upgrade himself as “elite”. The individual intellectual power is hardly recognised unless the intellectually rich is also financially sound. Of course, the Nobel laureates are still respected but there lies an unseen void for intellectual appreciation.
The initial days were different, there was virginity among people like the nature we live in was quiet and virgin. Time passed, greed prevailed, and eventually, we have succumbed to the pressure to accomplish success in terms of money. Frauds, fakes, cheats, manipulators rise to the top. A decent graduate could not remain decent as a public servant, a player, a singer, an actress, a lawyer, almost everyone succumbed to the pressure of corrupt practices. Yes, Mother Teresa existed and Nelson Mandela too survived but their class is ‘rarest of the rare’. Is the entire human race is converting to ‘sociopaths’ slowly and steadily? A sociopath can be defined as a person who has Antisocial Personality Disorder. This disorder is characterized by a disregard for the feelings of others, a lack of remorse or shame, manipulative behaviour, unchecked egocentricity, and the ability to lie in order to achieve one’s goals. Their disorders are harder to notice and diagnose. They pretend they care for others but they love themselves the most.
I know I am pointing to a problem which is succumbing the world citizens. I know that all of us have no accountability to protect the Earth, its citizens, their moral and ethical values were not preserved. We have moved away far from originality. Can we restore the virgin qualities of the human race? After all, it’s not a computer programme which got corrupted and you restore it with anti-virus!
Maybe the solution lies in developing some ethical training programmes at the very beginning, from childhood, the family and children and the entire society must surrender them to ethical practices. Let us sow the seeds of moral values among small children, let us go close to nature which is quiet without any demand. Let us learn to live like the nature with least demands of life.
